Celtic Knots Colorization based on Color Harmony Principles

چکیده

This paper proposes two simple and powerful algorithms to automatically paint Celtic knots with aesthetic colors. The shape of the knot is generated from its dual graph as presented in [KC03]. The first technique uses rules derived from two-colors harmony studies in a Color Order System to select harmonious color pairs. We show that it can efficiently reproduce color combinations utilized in ancient and modern Celtic design. The second technique aims at creating knots with a rainbow type colorization that can be seen in modern Celtic art. The user controls a few parameters like the number of desired different hues, or the average brightness and saturation expected, by defining an ellipse in the color space. The program then accordingly selects a series of colors. In both cases, we apply rules issued from prior Color Science studies.

Automated Colorization of Segmented Images Based on Color Harmony

We propose in this paper an automated colorization of segmented images based on a color harmony rule defined by Itten called the contrast of proportion. Artists create an image drawing a sketch and filling its regions following harmony rules. The most significant regions are generally filled first because of their meaning. Then the other regions are filled depending on the previous colors. Our ...

Segmented Images Colorization Using Harmony

In the colorization process, artists fill image’s regions with colors following harmony rules. Some region colorizations are more significant than others. In this paper we introduce a model for computer assisted colorization of segmented images using Itten’s proportion contrast. Our model is able to process images composed of totally blank or partially filled regions. Though, each region must b...

Knots in Art

We analyze applications of knots and links in the Ancient art, beginning from Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Byzantine and Celtic art. Construction methods used in art are analyzed on the examples of Celtic art and ethnical art of Tchokwe people from Angola or Tamil art, where knots are constructed as mirror-curves. We propose different methods for generating knots and links based on geometric po...

Perceptually-based Color Assignment

Color assignment is a complex task of incorporating and balancing area configuration, color harmony, and user’s intent. In this paper, we present a novel method for automatic color assignment based on theories of color perception. We define color assignment as an optimization problem with respect to the color relationships as well as the spatial configuration of input segments. We also suggest ...

A Celtic Framework for Knots and Links

We describe a variant of a method used by modern graphic artists to design what are traditionally called Celtic knots, which are part of a larger family of designs called “mirror curves”. It is easily proved that every such design specifies an alternating projection of a link. We use medial graphs and graph minors to prove, conversely, that every alternating projection of a link is topologicall...
